From Bumps & Babies groups to Nearly New Sales to campaigning to improve local maternity services, our volunteers do an incredible amount at local level.
Our practitioners play an equally vital role, providing courses and workshops for parents to help new mums and dads feel confident and informed about giving birth and becoming a parent.
These include antenatal courses, postnatal Early Days courses and Mother and Baby Yoga classes.
NCT Stars 2016 started early in the year when the public were invited to nominate practitioners and volunteers.
Each and every one of our volunteers and practitioners deserves to be recognised, awarded and celebrated so it was a hard task to whittle the many nominations down to winners.
Those shortlisted were invited to our Stars ceremony (pictured) at City Hall on 2 November 2016 where we were thrilled and delighted to be joined by Prunella Briance, the founder of our charity.
You may know that Prunella founded NCT after she suffered a horribly mis-managed birth and the loss of her precious baby girl.
She wanted an organisation that would be ‘run by mothers, for mothers’ so women could prepare themselves for birth through antenatal education and approach labour free from fear and ignorance.
She told us: “NCT was my lifeline. I wanted to inform and educate women and men. I wanted to get rid of the fear around childbirth and help women triumph over their anxiety.”
It was a privilege to have Prunella (pictured) with us to celebrate our Stars in our 60th anniversary year. At 90 years old, she is still fabulously eloquent, charismatic and warm. You can read more about Prunella and NCT’s story here.
