Pregnant women and new parents returning to work after having children are to be further protected from unfairly losing their jobs under new proposals set out by the the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
These proposals to extend rights for new parents returning to work are a step in the right direction
We welcome this as good news as we know that this is a serious issue for many parents.
In response to these new government proposals, Elizabeth Duff, our Senior Policy Adviser, said:
‘The early period of settling a baby into childcare can be difficult and mothers and fathers may need flexibility around their working hours.’
She added: ‘Research has shown that maternity discrimination is rife in the UK so further measures to protect new parents’ rights in the workplace would be very welcome.’
