Neel Bhanderi shares the story of his NCT group and says it’s not just the mums who forge fantastic friendships!
My wife Lizzie and I decided to do an NCT class because we wanted to get more information about becoming parents for the first time but also to meet other couples in the area as we’d recently moved. At our first class we were optimistic but apprehensive about whether we would get on with the other
parents-to-be. Within minutes there was a lot of laughter and we knew we would get along with everyone.
It was reassuring that we all had similar fears and anxieties about the labour and first few weeks after the birth.
It was great meeting like-minded couples from a variety of backgrounds. There are so many things to think about before your baby is born so it was reassuring that we all had similar fears and anxieties about the labour and first few weeks after the birth. We made some wonderful friends, which makes
it easy to share our thoughts and opinions with each other. Lizzie meets up regularly with the mums and we organise a joint NCT birthday party every year at local venues.
I started to organise a dads’ night out, with the first one just a few weeks after our babies were born. We usually try to meet up once a month for a beer, curry and a lot of laughs. We’ve being doing that for three years now, which is testament to the fact that we’ve forged such strong friendships through our NCT class.’
