This week is the second Race Equality Week in the UK. During the week, organisations are being challenged to take direct action on race inequality. Read about how we’re getting involved.
Race Equality Week has been taking place this week from 7-13 February. The aim of the week is for organisations across the UK to come together and act to address racism in the workplace.
The Race Equality Network highlight some sobering statistics as what is ‘normal’ in the workplace – here are just some from 2021:
As the national charity for pregnancy and early parenthood, our vision is of a world in which no parent is isolated and all parents are supported to build a stronger society.
We want to be an anti-discriminatory, inclusive charity that reflects the parents we have an ambition to serve. To support this, we want to take every opportunity to better understand and continue to learn.
We know that to meet this commitment and to drive real change, we need to face into the reality that inequality, discrimination and racism are systemic.
Race Equality Week provides time and space for us to focus on our commitment to being an anti-racist charity. This includes examining our own culture, practices and policies – with a focus on taking action across our community of employees, practitioners, volunteers and students.
On Monday, our management team took part in the second of a series of workshops facilitated by equalities charity brap to embed our anti-racism learning to date and further develop our action plan. And on Thursday, staff members were invited to a race equality focus session, to discuss and reflect on race in the workplace and what it takes to become anti-racist.
